Celebrating Yeovil Pride during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
After a successful first Yeovil Pride in 2019 and just as we were building momentum as an organisation, our plans were scuppered (like so many) by the global coronavirus pandemic that forced us all to face long lockdowns.
Despite this, the team were able to pull off an online celebration hosting a ‘2020 Vision’ panel discussion, a virtual night of karaoke and a pet talent competition, and more. As lockdown restrictions eased, we also were able to host a film screening allowing LGBT+ people to come together, albeit in a socially distanced way.
We were also able to formally register as a charity in February 2020, demonstrating our commitment to putting on an annual LGBT+ Pride event in the town, alongside other objectives including educational outreach.
Key Points:
Registered Yeovil Pride as a charitable incorporated organisation (Charity Number: 1188187).
Held a virtual Pride celebration in response to the global coronavirus pandemic, including panel discussions, talent shows and virtual karaoke.
Hosted an in-person LGBT+ documentary film screening, in line with government guidelines.
